Cheese from Peñamellera
Description:
This cheese that had traditionally been made in farms located in the Asturias county of Peñamellera Alta was close to disappearing. A few years ago, a group of local cheesemakers recover it from oblivion and guaranteed its survival. Today this cheese is appreciated for its strong taste with acid and bitter notes that remind of hay.

The Peñamellera cheese is creamy and soft even though it has been left to mature. It’s prepared with cow’s milk that gives a buttery and smooth touch and depending of the season, sheep’s and goat’s milk is added so that its aroma is more intense.

It is delicious with bread baked in a wood fired oven and cider. White or rosé dry light wines are also a good option.
